ATHLETICS.
♦ HAMILTON HARRIERS. A meeting was held in Messrs Jones and Whitton's shop last evening to consider the formation of a Harrier Chub in Haluiltou. Thtre was a fair attendance with Mr J. Hammond in the chair. A letter of apology for absence was received from Mr M. McArthur, wishing the Club all success. Mr Jones, in moving that a Harrier Club be formed said that there were all the prospects of success, and that rthey need not be disappointed if übey had to commence in a small way, for tbe Cavers-ham Club in Dune-din which started with a membership of six bad to-4ay a men bership of ninety, sixty of whom were running members. Mr Peters seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. The Club is a purely amateur body and is not dependent on any other club. On the motion of Mr Varney it was decided to call the club the " Hamilton Harrier Club,'' and the club colors were decided- 'on as green, with a ;hladjge to ddstinguioh members from the ASma'fceur Athletic Club's colors. The following officers were elected : —President, Mr H. Tristram ; vicepnisilder.ts, Messrs H. J. Greetnslade, M.P., R. Bollard, F. R. Seddon, J. Varney,, and! 001. A. Bell. Capttain, Mr F. Jones ; deputy-captain, Mr Bennett ; committee : Messrs Vincent S. Da\is, W. .Peters'and the president, captain* and deputy-captain ; secretary and "'treasurer, Mr J. Qualtrongh ; auditor, Mr G. R. Wylie ; handicapper and selector, Mr J. Hammond ; delegate) to tbe Hamilton Amateur Athletic Club, F. Jones. The subscription was fixed at 5/for active members and 2/6 for honorary members. The framing of rules was left in "tbe hands of the committee.
Twenty-five names were banded in as intending members, and the meeting concluded 'with ia vote of thanks to 'Mr Hammond, Mr Speight (who had acted as 'secretary pro. tern), and Mr Jones for the use of his roan:. An informal meeting of the commitetee was them held, when it was decided to hold a meeting on Monday next iat 8 p.ra., ito fix the time and place for the opening run. WOMEN'S WALKING RECORD. (Per Preai Asiociation.—Copyright). (Received Sept. 12, 9.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 12. Mrs Park, a New Zealander, has established a record for women walkers. Accompanied by a packman, carrying the impediments, she travelled afoot from Melbourne to Sydney, the journey occupying five weeks. She slept in the open.
