THE TAURANGA ELECTORATE

TO THE EDITOR, Sir,—l see by various reports that soma of the Cambridge feople are objecting to their being included within the new Tauranga electorate, on account of their being no communion of interest and no direct means of communication between the localities on the eastern and western sidei of the range of mountains separating the Tauranga and Piako Counties. These objections seem at first sight to be qt£te reasonable, but when one dnly considers that the interests of the Borough of Cambridge and those of the great bulk of the Piako County, and even of Te Aroha, are practically identical, and that the voting power on the Cambridge side of the range will be more than donble of that on the other side of it. it would appear rather that it is the borongh and County of Tauranga residents who should feel isolated. It remains only for the Cambridge and Pie,ko electors to select and support some progressive candidate residing on this side of the range who would work in harmony with the present energetic member for Waikato so that instead < f being disfranchised, the Cambridge elector?, under such circumstances, would then be doubly endowed in regard to [Parliamentary representation, and thereby maintain the present high state of progress and prosperity to which their own recent awakening gave ayspiciouß birth. If, however, the the constituency in question were ohanged from Tauranga to Piako, which should be done, and the principal polling plaoe located .in the Borough of Cambridge, it being the must populous centra within it, the recent boundary alterations (and arrangements would then wear a far more congenial aspect in the eyes of Tauranga elector on the western side of the Te Aroha Range. Thanking you in anticipation,. I am etc, <

T. V. ELECTOB. Piako County, January Bth 1907.
