(Bv Telegkaph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 9. I Mr Hornblow, editor of the Mangaweka Settler, who is on a visit to Wellington, is satisfied that at the present rate of progress the Main Trunk line will be completed in the tune mentioned by the Minister for Pubhc Works, in about two and a-half years from to-day. The chief diffi- * culty lies in the bridging operation. The season has been favourable, and J the men have consequently been earngood money. There is, too, a commendable air of briskness about the workers' movements. It is expected that the line will soon reach a handy supply that will sicken the construction operations. The English immigrants who braved the initial inconvenience, have turned oat first-class workmen. A Palmeraton resident states that the saw milling industry i 8 very brisk along the Main Trunk. Mr Irvine manager of the Dannevike nawaul! expects that at the end of six mouths the company's No 2 mill wil have cut out i„ Hawke's Bay, and the plant wi |l then be removed to lurangarere, where preparations *re being made by o th er 9aW miller« to erect powerful plants, capable of cutting an enormous quantity of timber per diem. A plant of a similar pattern to those in vogue in the Waikato districts U being put 0 W ° at f oh f aku °e. capable of cutting 30,000 feet per day.
