HAMILTON TENNIS CLUB.

OPENING OF COURTS. A large number of visitors attended at the Hamilton Lawn Tenuis Club's new courts in Palmerston-street on Saturday, in order to take part in the opening ceremony. His Woruuip tue Mayor ot Hamilton, Mr J. S. Bond, officially declared the courts open for play, and in doing so referred to the fact that, including land and pavilion, the cost of laying out the courts had bjen £144, whioh had been kept down to the minimum through the keenness of some members who organised working bees. With a present membership ot 50, it was anticipated that ere long the eighties would be reached. He was pleased to learn that the club intended to hold a provincial tournament at Easter time, as it would tend to infuse greater interest into the playing of local members; besides the bringing together of all the best players in the province it could not fail to have an educative vaiua. Referring to the Courts, Mr Bond said when the right-of-way through Mr A. G. Tibbutt'i was made and the bridge over the gully built, they would be at a convenient distance from fie centre of the town. The presence of the president of the Bowling Club (Mr R. F. Sandes) and several members showed that a . pleudid feeling existed between the various sports clubs, and he hoped it would long oontinue thus. In excluding, the Mayor congratulated the Club on the excellent prospects before it, and wished members a most successful season.

ilr Sandes, as president of the Bowling Club, congratulated the tennis players on tneir sue esslul opening, and expressed the hope that their season would be a most bucceisful one.

During the progress of the games, the lady members of the club dispensed afternoon tea.
