OPENING OF SEAS3N. Thn growing popularity of rowing in Hamilton was evidenced lust evening by the large crowd that assembled on and near the traffic bridge to witness the decision of the first heat for the cup presented by Mr H. 11. Howden tor annual competition between the b arding houses of Hamilton. Murray!! Id and Almadale were pitted against one another, Almadale taking the last of the course, which was fruui below the railway bridge to the sheds. Murrayfield were better stroked than the ipposiug crew, who put in 00 to their 3ti, and Tyerman brought thorn in winners by nearly two lengths. Tne ollicial opening takes place this afternoon, commencing with the final for _ the cup at 2.30 p.m., Murrayfield meeting Abbotsford.
