Bond), and Cra. VV. F. t\W.n, A. S. Browis, (J. J. \V. Barton, C. L. MacDiarunil, VV. 0. Davis, J. A. Young and G. stone. (Jakktakincl Charges.—The secretary of the Uaimitou West District High School • Committee wrote protesting against the 1 chin ge of 10s per week for the nail care- I taker and characterising it as unreasonable I 1 he oaretaker, Mr E. lirtckon, wrote do- ) tailing the amount of work involved.—The 1 Mayor moved, and Cr. I i kakkic BaiDoE.— Mr James E. iulton, | engineer, wrote iioin Londun, under date 1 October 2nd, with reference to the Coun- 1 oil's enquiries regarding ferru-coucreto in i lieu of Bteel tor the Hamilton tratrie bridge. I He said he would not express an opinion aa I to the relative merits, but he wished the ( Council to get the beat possible bridge, lie I had oalled upon the engineer and president : of the Colonial Ferro-Concrete Syndicate ' in London, hud given them particulars of i the bridge and arranged with them to send out at onoe a preliminary design which will enable the Auckland representative to give a tender. The following day they had arranged to take him round London and show him a lot of their cemtut works ( there. Besides the very many large and tine bridges he had seen in America he had been looking at the principal ones in England, France, Germany, Belgium and Switzerland. He had been principally injpresstd by the expensive nature ot the uorks. 1 he large sums of money spent on t comparatively small structures would not f suit us in N'ow Zealand. Mr Fulton added i that he expected to arrive back in New t Zealand about the middle of November, c and he would soon then be able to fix up f bridge matters. If steel or concrete was i too expensive he could easily build a bridge 1 in ironbark and iron for the money avail- i able.—As the Council could not discuss the c matter until the information mentioned is 1 to hand, the letter was merely " received." t Water Supply. Mr W. F. Maaon | asked that he be allowed ts connect his 1 house in Jersey - street with the water ] supply.—Referred to the engineer to repart. Lease Applied fob,—Mr Thos. Had the works i been oarried out on a commission basis, ' the cost of work done by Mr Sims would be £SOO. He would move that 2-3 rd of the salary paid during the work be debited , to the loan accounts. He would take that opportunity of stating that, as far as he | could judge, the work Mr Sims was doing , was satisfactory. Those in a better position to judge than himself, were also loud in their praises of tbe way in which tbe i plans had been prepared and other details : of the work oarried out. —Cr.
