♦ From Our Own Correspondent During the past week of two there hive been several Southern men here on the luokout for land, and locU land Agents are on the "qui vive" to effect sale 3. The changing hands of one farm is already reported, that of G. A. Edmonds' 400 aores at Te Uku. The buyer is aMr Stanton, from the Palmerston North district, who intends to go in for dairying. Mr K. F, Burnett has taken over the Hot Springs Hotel, at Waingaro.and enters into possession immediately. Mr Burnett is no stranger to Waingaro, having previously spent several yearß there. Mr Curtis, audit inspector, has been paying an inspection visit to the local post cilices. The Government hemp grader at Auckland is endeavouring to induce the exhibitor of dressed flax at the late A. and P. produce show who took first priza, to send a bale of fibre to the Christchurch Exhibition. He says he only knows of one mill where as good a sample is produced, and Eaglan should have a great chsnee of scoring highest honours if an exhibit of equal quality to that sent to the show at Te Mata were forwarded to Christchurch. Mr Dent, of Denniston, who purchased Mr Curtis' farm at Kauroa, accompanied by Mrs Dent and family, arrived last week. Tenders were received during the week for several Harbour Board endowment allotments, the successful tenderers being Messrs Langley, Baker, W. J. Smith, T. Brown, Middlemiss and Darrow (the lastnamed as trustee for the Raglan Lawn Tennis Club.) The total rentals amount to £l7 19s 6d, as against .£4 23 at last letting. At a meeting on Monday night? it was decided to form a tennis club, Mr Darrow being elected President and Dr. Sanders secretary, with Mesdamcs E. Wallis, Dar- | row, Kawlinson, McCarthy, Sanders, Green, ' Misses Husband and Coffey, and Messrs Langley, A. Husband, Darrow, Thompson, Kawlinson and Dr. Landers as a committee. There was a meeting of ratepayers at the Te Qku school on Saturday afternoon to consider the advisability of going in for a loan for road metalling, Cr. Edmends in the chair. The original idea was to metal a mile or two of road round the Kauroa factory, hut this did not " cath on," and a resolution was passed in favour of a £3OOO loan for the Itaglan-Waipa road, the following committee being appointed to obtain the necessary information and report to a future meeting; Messrs Edmonds, VV. Smith, E. Watkins, Moore, E. Wallis Henry and Green.
