NATIVE LAND COURT
(By Telegraph.—Prsss Association.) HASTINGS, Last Night. A Native Land Court presided over by Judge Mair sat hero for the purpose of bearing argument in the Waimarama case. This block is being partitioned for closer settlement as was discussed at a large meeting of Maoris some months back when the late Mr Seddon was in attendance. Several native owners objected to the partition and there were rumours of war. Mrs Donnelly, who is extensively interested in the block, said she hoped the matter would be left for the natives to settle without interference by Europeans. The natives would discuss the matter and probably would disagree at first, but they would be able to settle their differences and come to an arrangement which would be acceptable to all. She askei the court not to be impatient if the negotiations took time, as the block was very valuable and it was important that any settlement made should be final. Judge Mair congratulated the owners on their desire to see a friendly termination, and said he would arrange for a Government surveyor to be in attendance to assist the natives.
