Kolhweil required a new bridge at Mr AlcAlicken's, in the Tuhikaramea riding; that burnt clay be placed on certain parts on the Hamilton-Tuhikaramea road ; that the new deviation on this r ad ' be opened for traffic; and that the Super- 1 visor inspect the Ohiupo-luhikaramea road from Mr Carter's to Air Burke's with a view to improving it.—Cr. Bell wished for _ estimates for necuesary works at Hawkins' bridge; grading of the hill there; that f

steps be takeu to protect the County drum at Frankton ; improvement of the Ohaupo road tr jin the boundary of the Pukekura riding to Mr Hmiiltou's place, principally by removal of overhanging trees; the framing of a by-law dealing with the use of footpaths, especially in regard to Kingstreet, h rankton; that Mr Hah's complaint re Hooding of his land on the Whatawhata road be attended to by opening up the watertables Cr. Bell considered the formation had been carried out in a proper ininner, but the drainage certainly required improvement j in one case, it was impossible lor the Council to do anything with it. The Council was not asking anything unreasonable.—On the Chairman's motion, Beconded by Cr. Bell, Cr;. The opinion was expressed that the Stock Department is doing its best in tee matter with the men and means at its disposal. The Raglan Council considered it absolutely unjust to enforce the Act on private individuals and to allow Native and Crown lands to remain unattended to. If the ijueition was treated seriously soon, it would be a great saving to the County, as it was only a question of when the cust would be immense.—lt was unanimously decided to communicate with the Minister and Mr H. J. Greenslade, M.H.tt.. on the subject. Some discussion arose as to the reading of clauses 1 to 6 of subjection C of section 4, whether the payments on tne various amounts of rates specified, were cumulative, also whether fractions of a penny other than {d would bear subsidy.—lt was resolved to write upon these points to Mr H. J. Greenslade, and to further point out that the total amount intended to be paid out in subsidies namely, £85,000, urging that this should be invress- uto to obviate the necessity of loc U b dus applying for G«■. , Ve^nm<-tj , grants, Pon e.n o- P aero a Railway. —On the motion of the Chairmau, seconded by Cr. Fraser, who attendee in support of the application, said there were 51 ratepayers in the district concerned, and the remaining three signatures necessary were assured.—The Chairman .said the first thing to do if the Council agreed to the proposal, would be to ascertain if the Government would advance the money—ln reply to the Ch.irman Mr Fraser said the total rateable value wi+s £43,000. and the rate would yield J631, while the interest on the loan would | amount to j£24. —Cr Rothwell utged the reasonableness of the proposal, stating that the majority of the largest ratepayers were in favour of the loan being raised. He gave notice of motion that a special meeting be held on October 0 to make a special order authorising the loan, the clerk ia the meantime to ascertain whether the inonr y 'will be available, and to obtain legal opinion on the procedure to be followed.— Cr. Duxfield returned to the charge in the necessity of obtaining another grader, on which he was defeated at last meeting.—Cr. Potts seconded the Biotioa that another ba purchased.—Cr.

Bell supported the proposal, contending that the ultimate indirect saving would more than cover the cost. In some counties in the t>«utli < t the North Inland, the grader was run over the roads twice a year, a considerable saving being effected in the I the general upkeep.—The Chairman said if one of the irralers at Putaruru were suitable, it might be possible to invest in one next year ; to work a sec( nd this season would, in his opinion, be a breach of faith with Air Mawhinney.
