Buckland and Sons report Beef was in full supply and sold freely. Better prices reigned at the commencement I'ut fell to late rates as the sale proceeded. Steers ranged from £G 15s to £ll 7s 6 cows XI 10s to XG 15s. Sheep.—Sheep were in average nuuibera, end kept late rates. Wethers made to 255, wes to 23s 9d, lambs to l'Js Gd. Pigs.—Pigs were in short supply, and sold at advanced rates.

HAMILTON STOCK SALE. Messrs McNicol and Co. report:— At the Hamilton sale yesterday we had a full yarding of cattle, 750 head of all classes being penned. Thoro was a fair enquiry for beef prices ruling ahout the same as late sales. Store cattle were not in demand and prices wore low, although a good number were sold at prices in favour of the buyers. 150 head of beef yarded and with the exception of 13, all were quitted. HIGH PRICES. LONDON, May 9. The wool sales are animated, and the opening prices are fully maintained. Messrs Buxton, Ronald acd Company, Messrs Balme and Company, and Messrs Jacombe and Sou offered 9446 bales, including 7028 bales of Now Zealand. There was a cro,.dai attendance from all parts, and keen competition. Yorkshire manufacturers are operating freely. As compared with the closing rates at the March sales, medium and coarse crossbreds are from par to 5 per cent, higher. WELLINGTON. Last Night. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cab'e from the High Commissioner dated London, May 9: "The wool sales commenced with groat competition and a good demand for all descriptions. DUNEDIN, Wednesday. Wheat: There is a fair demand for all kinds of prime miiling. Owing to the bad weather the bulk of the consignments from the South are unfit for milling, but as there is a large demand for fowl wheat there is no difficulty in disposing of it, but at prices too high for shipment. Prime milling, 3s 2jd to 3s Id; good to best, 3s Id to 3s 2d; medium, 2 s lid to 33; broken and inferior, 2s ,8d to 2s lOd (sacks extra). Oats: The demand is in advance of supply. Owing to the unseasonable weather very few are coming forward, and what is in store brings slightly higher prices. Prime milling, 2s to 2s Id : best feed, Is 11 jd to 2s ; medium, Is lOd to Is lid; inferior, Is Sid ,to Is 9Jd, ADDINGTON STOCK SALE CHISTCHURCH, Wednesday. At the Addington live stock market today, in spite of the wet weather, there were fairly large entries of stock, but the attendance was limited to those who had actual business to transact. Beef was somewhat easier, while fat lambs met with a brisk sale, and store sheep sold at late ratos. except forward wethers, which were firmer. There wa* also an improvement in the prices of prime fat sheep. Pigs sold somewhat irregularly, and there was a dull sale for store and dairy cattle.

Store sheep —About 5000 store sheep were entered, mostly lambs and wothers. Forward wothers were most in demand and prices showed an advance of about Is per head, while other classes sold well up to lata rates. Forward wethers made 16s to 16s lid ; others lis 9d to 14s 7d ; forward lambs, 10s 9d to 12s lid ; othor3, 9a to 10s 6d.

Fat lambs.—There were 5500 fat lambs penned, the quality boing good, and there was a keen d«m and, prices being about Is above the previous week. Prime lambs made 16s to lbs N I, one pen to 19s, and a few lots 14s to 15s 9d.

Fat sheep.—A large entry of fat sheep included some large prime lines of both wethers and ewes. Competition throughout the sale was good, and prices for prime sorts showed an advance. Prime wethers made 203 6d to 23s 7d ; light, 18s 3d to 20s; prime ewes, 17s to 18s (id; extra, to 19-i od; medium to good, Ms fid to Ids 6d; others, from !)s; good to prime merino wethers, 12s 3d to 15s lOd. Fat Cattle.—There were 236 head of fat cattle of average quality yarded, and owing to the large supply and wet weather bidding was not very brisk. Except for prime steers prices showed a slight decline. For Mr J. a. Hill (Motonau) six steers were sold at .£8 os to .£l2 10s, one cow at .£8 ss, and two heifers XS 5s snd XI), and for Mr W. Crow (Chorlton) 14 steers made Xfi 10s and £H 7s 01. Other 3teers brought Xo 17s Gd to £lO os ; heifers, -t5 7s 6d to £7; cows, iM 17s 6d to £6 10s (equal to 19s to 21s for prime and 15s to 18s for secondary and inforior per 1001b). A good yarding of veal calves sold at 7s (id to £3.

Store and Dairy Cattle,—A small mixed entry of store cattle found few buyers, and p-icos were vary low, yearlings selling nt 10s; 15 to ly-iuonths, 20f to 40s; 2-year steers, £2 15s to £,i; 2-year heifers, 10s; 3-year steers, -C3 103 to ill Ids; dry cows, 25s to it. Only a few dairy cows change \ hands, few buyers being present. Pigs.— There was a large yarding of fat pigs, especially porkers, but few stores. Baconers sold very irregularly and were easier, while thero was little demand for stores. Baconers made3ss to 15s, aud up to 35s for heavier (averaging 3Jd per lb); porkers, 203 to 30s (equal to 3:{d per lb) • and small stores at about last week's rates.
