THE MURDER OF A MAGISTRATE.
MARITZBURG, May 5. Mr Stainbank, the magistrate who was murdered while tax-collecting, was shot in the knee, while connecting field telegraph wires with an inspanned cart.
The abandoned safe containing the hut tax he had collected was afterwards found intact.
Hie policeman, Fellares, who was shot at the same time, is the son of a Guildford doctor. His real name is Sells.
Captain Mackenzie crossed the Buffalo River and laagered. Ihe local chiefs at Mahlacitiui, where the purty tied for refuge, are behaving well. They expressed in'iignation and grief, and sent followers to search for the murderers.
