MORRINSVILLE.
From our Own Correspondent
After a week's sickness caused by blood poisoning to the arm. Mr Tim Ryan resumed his duties yesterday. Messrs McEnnis and Higham have a splendid area of flax (some 200 acres in extent) which has grown considerably since the big swamp on their estate was drained and should at least yield 5000 tons of fhx in a couple of years Mr James Dick, of the Morrinsville railway staff, made a plucky rescue on Monday. Two ladies were standing on the metals in front of the station alongside some car 3 ou the outer line of rails. The Thames portion of the Auckland express was being shunted on to the Thames line, creeping along noiselessly with the ladies unaware of its proximity in immediate danger. Several shouts from the platform roused them, just as Mr Dick dashed forward,c itching them away from the cars and holding them close to the stationary carriages, until the tiain stopped. This is the second plucky rescue from at least serious mutilation male by Mr Dick during the last fortnight, and his prompt action and counge should not go unrewarded. These nari'>w esc ipos emphasise fie fact that it is absolutely necessary that a traffic bridge should be erected over the line, as it is almost impossible for passengers to cross the line, whilst three or more trains are shunting, with any degree of safety. The late rains have been very beneficial to turnip crops, which are looking welt. No one in Morrinsville seems to know the Walter Newman, who committed suicide in Auckland on Saturday evening, and reported as being a surveyor lately arrived from Morrinsville
