WAITOA ROAD BOARD

♦ This Board met at Waihou on Saturday last. Present: Messrs W,Chepmell (chairman), 8. Bellamy, and T. Hughes. Half Holiday.—A special meeting was first held to determine the day on which the statutory half-holiday should be observed in accordance with the Shops and Offices Act.—Thursday was retained as the half-holiday. Eoad Machine.—After the formal business of the ordinary meeting, a letter was received from the County Council stating that no departure could be mide from the principle that the Road Board or others using the machine must keep it in repair while in their p jssession and rt turn it in good order. Re Lovegrove Road Bridge, a report was pending from Cr Donaldson and the County foreman. ?and.—Permission to take 100 yds of sand from Rook's pit was granted. Transfers. —W. H. Holmes to A. Thackery, of seotion 15 VI and 32 Wairere, 250 acres.—From Assets Botrd to Mr S. C. Parlour, flaxmiller, Morrinsville, 1 Kuranui (Lockerbie Estate) 37 acres. Foremen's Refort.—Foreman Mahood reported that pipes on Walton road had been attended to, an 1 00yds of clay carted. Low places on Turunui road filled up. G. Lawcock's contract, on Walton roid was reported as satisfactorily completed. Good progress was rep rted on Bell's contract on Valley mad.—Foreman Parr reported Neeve's contract on Biker's road finished (deepening 18 chains of drain and spreadins material on road). Several bridges and approaches n-paired. Caited material to Roos' road by Mr Thomas, the latter having found the horse and dray as agreed upon. Work aut lorised on Te Kawana road reported finished at a cost of £"J 12s, exclusive of foreman's time, the estimated cost being .810. f-everal bri Igea require slight repairs. J. Ryan's contract, widening and deepening drain by education reserve, Waiorongomai, reported unfinished. Mr Ryan was reported to be exceeding the authorised distance by fully two chains. Mr Cochrane h:is commenced the outlet through Mr Bell's.—Foreman Pair stated that ho had only called about half the authorised tenders. MoKRINSVILLE - KIWITAIU RAILWAY Bridije —The Railway Department expressed by letter its opinion that as the bridge span is 20ft, and the road formation 15ft, the oblique piers were no obstruction to the small amount of traiKc passing this spot. The letter stand that considerable expense which would be required to m«.ke tho suggested alteration, was not warranted by circumstances. Authorities.—A letter from the Minister for Public Works stated that with respect to the grant of 4200 for the Morrinsville to M.iukoro road and ,£IOO for McPherson's road authorities for the expenditure of these amounts had been issued to the District Road Engineer at Auckland Noxious Weeds.—ln reply to a request of the Board that the Stock Inspector, Hamilton, should send an officer to inspect noxious weeds in their district, a letter stated that m ny similar requisitions were being received by the Department, but that the necessary inspection would be made at as early a date as possible. Drain on Te Aroua-Rotorua Road.—lt was resolved that the Clerk be instructed to write to tho Matamata Road Board in reference to a drain on this road near Lookyer's corner, which was reported to be cmsing troublesome Hooding in Borne places. A request would be made that the Matamata Road Board should contribute £2i> towards thecost of cleaning and widening this drain for some distance to Coleman's Creek. Biine 7s 6d, Waikato Times 13s 6d, Piako County Council £'S 10s. Lockerbie Estate. The Chairman stated that he had received three letters from Mr Swarbrick in connection with the Lockerbie estate, one of tiiem being of a private nature. Tho Board then went into committee.
