OHAUPO STOCK SALE

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Compiny, Limited, reports :—We held our annual monthly sale at Ohaupo yesterday. Mostly all yarded were sold. The prices all through were satisfactory. Good calves were wanted and sold well. Few big csttle yarded. Graziers and empty cows were wanted, and all offering sold well. Only a few beef yarded and all eold. Spring cart horse quitted at i) 18. All forward cattle were in demand.

HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE

WELLINGTON, Tuesday.

In a cable to the Department of Industries and Commerce the High Commissioner 6tates :

The mutton market is somewhat steadier. The average price of Canterbury mutton is 4^d; other and North Island mutton, 3£d. The lamb market is overstocked, and prioes are depressed, Australian lamb being in large supply. This season's New Zealand lamb is quoted at 5d (nominal); Australian lamb, 4d.

There is scarcely any demand for beef. The average price of hindquarters New Zealand beef is 3d; fores, 2Jd.

The buttei market is unsettled, being unfavourably affected by large shipments from Australia. The price of choicest New Zealand butter to-day is 112s cwt; Danish, 119s.

The cheese markot is quiet, and prices are slightly weaker, high prices restricting business. New Zealand cheese is quoted from 62s to 63s per cwt. The hemp market is active at higher prices for spot deliveries. The price of New Zealand hemp, good to fair Wellington grade, on spot to-day per ton, is £i'3; January to March shipments, .£32.

The wool market is active and firm

CHRISTCHURCH JGRAIN MARKET. CHRIS ["CHURCH, Tuesday. Thore has been some inquiry during the past few days for Tuscan wheat and for oats, but there is prac' ically no grain offering. The hailstorms and the generally broken weather have evidently decided growers to hold what was lately on offer or likely to be offered. The mirket therefore depends very largely upon the weather during the next mouth or two. In the meantime no business is being done.

CHRIST PURCH WOOL SALES. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. There was a fair attendance at the wool sales to-diy, but buyers were not very numerous. Prices in the earlier stages of the B<oe were about level with those of the last sales. Good wools were very firm. LONDON WOOL SALES. LONDON, January 28. The market is animated and prices very firm. To date 116,03!) bales have been catalogued and 111,133 sold. The following were the average prices realised for the fleece portions of the clip? named: Piinpana, II }d: (ium Cr->ek, Chriatchurch, lljd; Akitio, 12i|d; Napier, Momotarii, 13J1.
