NEW ZEALAND LOAN & MERCANTILE AGENCY COMPANY'S WEEKLY MARKET KErORT. Horses have been ia steady demand, those of a good stamp being insufficient for requirements. Fully an average number was entered for disposal by auction at the Durham Yards on Friday. Bidding fluctuated, but on the whole values were slightly in favour of the vendors. We quote : Heavy draughts at from £2410s to i23G; medium draughts, w£l9 10s to £2B; light harness draughts, i>il 10s to £18; hacks, j63 10s to <£l9; a sulky, ,£8 10s; springcart, £l2. Cattle.—At the Newmarket Yards on Tuesday, dairy and store stock were yarded in full numbers. Fat cattle were yarded in average numbers, the quality of which was good, although no heavy weights were yarded. Ox beef sold up to 25s 1001b ; cow beef, 18s to 23s 1001b; steers sold at from £7to£.l 15s; cows, £5 7s Gd to £7 17s Gd. Dairy cows sold at from .£6 1( s to £9; store cows, £3 10s to £4 1; s; grown steers, £6 10s to £7 2s fid. Sheep.—The Newmarket Yards were well filled on Tuesday, and sheep of all description showed improved values, more especially those of first quality. We quote: Fat wethers (shorn), at from 1.3s 9d to £l7s; ewes, 12s 9d to .£1 4s. Lambs, in full supply, gold well at from 9s 9d to 17s 6d. Pigs, well represented. Young pigs, 9s 6d to 17s ; store pigs, 13s to £1 2s; porkers, £1 18s to £3 Is. On Wednesday, at Pukekohe, there was a very large muster, dairy cows being especially well represented, 142 being offered. We quote: Dairy cows, at from £4 10s to £7 ; empty cows, £3 to £4 14s; heifers, £2 18s to £5 10s; 3 to 4-year-old steers, £6 2s 6d to £7 10s ; fat cows, £5 5s to £7 ; calves, £1 18s to £3; bulls, £b 5s to ,£9 10s. We submitted a large catalogue of hides and skins on Tuesday, all lines being sold under keen competition. We quote: Prime ox, 7d to 7id; extra stout, to OJd; stout ox, sjd to6d ; medium ox, to oj{d; light ox, 4£d to 4§d ; stags, 3d to Cow best lines, 4jd to 4fd ; good, 4|d to 4§d; kip, 3d to 3fd; calf skins, 3d to 4idSheepskini.—Market firmer, we quote, best butchers' skins, 4s 3d to 5s 9d; country skins, 3s 9d to 4s 2d; other lines, 2s to 3s 6d; lambs, 7d to Is 2d; pelts, 7d to lid. Maize.—Supplies very heavy, and market back to 2s 3d for prime samples, poor selling as low as Is lOd on wharf. Oats. —Market weak at Is 8d c.i.f. Chaff.—Demand very much reduced, and market easier. Local is worth £3. ex ttore ; Southern, £4 10s, ex store. Butter.—Supplies are heavy and market weaker. Cheese.—Firm at s}d to fid. DUNEDIN SHEEP MARKET. DUNEDIN, Yesterday. Messrs Wright and Stevenson, reporting from their Burnside saleyards, say sheep today realised tremendous prices. Of 66 shorn four-tooth wethers 41 sold at 27s each, 25 at 25s 3d, or equivalent to 4jd per lb all sunk, and to 5d per lb for bare mutton delivered to retail butcher. AUSTRALIAN PRODUCE MARKETS. MELBOURNE, November 17. The wool sales show a strong downward tendency. In some cases merinos fell a pennjf. Good bright wools generally have fallen a half-penny. Crossbreds are easier in sympathy with merinos. The highest price for merinos has been 10jd. A large number of lines have been passed in.
