WALTER BENTLEY SEASON.

Mr Charles Sanderson, the advance representative of the popular actor Mr Walterßentley, has.been engaged during 1 the past few days in decorating the hoardings of the township with the magnificenb printing purporting the opening performance of Mr Walter Bentley. whose name k now a household word throughout New Zealand and elsewhere, and wo feel sure that Mr Bentley will have a grand reception on Friday evening, being his opening night, he having just concluded a very successful season in Auckland, playing to crowded houses each nighf. It is not often that the theatre-going people of Hamilton have the pleasure of witnessing an actor like Mr Bentley, whose choice of" Hamlet" for the opening production is % wise one. The interpretation of thi Prince of Denmark is a fine accomplishment. It has been endorsed by the applause of the public and the Press of such critical cities as Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham,, for Mr Bentley has played " Hamlet" throughout Enyland and with particular success in the cities named. This verdict has been unanimous, and more recently by the leading critics of this colony. Mr Bentley's " Hamlet" is not the mclancholy, uncertain "Hamlet" of stape tradition. It js clear cut and decisive. As Mr James Smith, the learned and accomplished critic of the Melbourne Argus, has well said: "He makes the key-notes of the character a profound melancholy enlivened by a saturnine humour, a reverential affection for his father and an .irrepressible hatred for his uncle, mingled with scorn that deepens into the uttermost bitterness." But that space forbids us we would tain, dwell at much , greater length on Mr Bentley's " Hamlet," and would like to allude to some of his other performances. Mr Bentley intends to play at Hamilton two nights, Friday, November 30th, and Saturday, December. Ist. The plan of hall is now open at Captain Reid'.'i, photographer, where seats may be secured in advance. Pull particulars will be seen in/ our advertising columns.
