PUSHING THE EXPORT TRADE.
With the view of aiding the market gardeners, the Minister of Agriculture, Victoria, intends having shipments of green peas and asparagus made to London. It has been ascertained by experiments carried out in the refrigerating works at Flinders-street that they can be kept some weeks in a cool chamber without deterioration, The question of drying the vegetables in thesamemanner as apples and apricots, which could be iriade..amlable for use at any time by cooking them in water, is being pressed upon the attention of the Minister as a means of developing the export trade. IJe has been asked to offer a bonus of £IOO for a drier capable of evaporating at least two tons of vegetables at a time. M'llwraith, M'Eachern, and Co., Limited, shipped by the R.M.s. Oruba, which sailed for London on Saturday, a consignment of 10,000 eggs to their London house. This is the largest consign-, of eggs which has gone forward hitherto, and will be followed by regular weekly shipments on the part of this firm.
