Discussing the State elections, General Harrison, ex President, says the result proves that there is a vast majority in favour of protection. He considered that the. more . ardent supporters of protection favoured; a change in the schedules of the tariff rather than 'an alteration of principle. He himself was willing to support a policy of reciprocity in order to obtain foreign markets.
