TENNIS.

, VEST END X, HAMILTON. These was a large attendance of members and others, including a number of ladies, present at the grounds of the Hamilton Lawn Tennis Club, on Saturday, to witness the second annual, contest between the West. End and Hamilton Clubs. The Visitors were greatly handicapped in playing on the sand court, being wholly used to grass in Auckland, but from the practice games on Friday afternoon it was thought contest would have been a much closer one than it turned out to be, every set being won by- the local representatives, who in the end won 50games to the visitors' 24. The visitors were represented by Messrs H. 1 Gentles, A. G. Cooke, A. Goldie and P. F. Battley, and Mrs Gentles, while Messrs J. Hill, W. N. O. von Sturmer, P. £. Stevens and J, H. Hume, and Miss A. Jolly did battle for the local club. The following are the results of the various set

Yesterday a series of return matches were played, and again the local team was victorious. Play was started in the morning, the double sets in which Mr Gentles was engaged played off, so as to allow him to.return to Auckland by the afternoon train, In the afternoon Messrs Hill, Hamilton, and Goldie, West End, met in a single and after a splendid exhibition of tennis, some of the rallies being long sustained, the former won the three, sets by 18 games to seven, The following is the result of yesterday's play.
