The Indian Government propose to levy an ad valorem duty of five per cent, on all imports, with the exception of cotton yarns and fabrics. Double duty will be charged on petroleum. Silver will be.included in the levy, but gold will be exempted. The Indian newspapers protest against the exemption of cotton goods from the increased duty. The expedition against the Abors tribesmen, which has been operating . for some time past, has suffered a reverse. The rebels attacked the British near Borlax, killing thirty se« . poys, and capturing twenty prisoners.
