.;,,: ..•.,. /TO THE EDITOR. ; , , Sir,—As'. your correspondent's'. report of the steeplechase at the polo sports at Kihikihi on New Year's Day is somewhat misleading, I wish to make the ; following, statement of what did occur. Weall took the last jump but one from home in a cluster with .Wilkie.a length ahead of Corboy and myself, when he went' wide and suddenly came right across from near the'outside of the course to one of the poles, running us both inside; an action which we were not at all disposed to leave unchallenged; but he afterwards explained that he could not avoid it, as his pony had stumbled, causiup: him to swerve inwards.
