FLOODS IN THE WAIPA.
The Waipa River Hats are famous for their fertility, being periodically enriched, like tha Taieri Plains, by tho muddy deposit from flood waters. These benefits, however, occasionally como at awkward seasons, and we can understand the feelings of those —whether natives or Europeans—who witness their crops beiii2 slowly submerged under a rising flood. The heavy rains last week sent the Waipa River up to flnnd height, and considerable dninaea has been dona on tho lowest terraces, Fortunately tlio river receded before reaching within several feet of tho last flood, and many a fine crop of potatoes has oscapod destruction,
