THE GRAND JURY, SYSTEM. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir,—With reference to your leader in last issue, admitting that the Brand jury system is cumbersome and old-fashioned, it is nevertheless a great factor in the pure administration of justice. In the event of their functions being relegated to the public prosecutor, what is there to prevent hi in being what is euphoniously termed "got at," politically or otherwise. I have known nolle prosequi entered up in cases in Australia, where the grand jury system is not in force, for monetary bribes, the rigilance of the press notwithstanding; but I do not think anyone would attempt to embrace a body of men like a grand jury in like manner.—l am, etc., Hknuy Hooper, Sen.
