POLITICAL NOTES.

(Bt TELEGRAPH—SPKCIAIi CORRESPONDENT). Wellington, Last Night. A RATHKR heated dispute took place in the House this afternoon over a question put to the Premier by the Loader of the Opposition. A fall report of the debate will be found in our parliamentary new*. THE BRYCE EPISODE. The proceedings in the House, yesterday, with respect t>) the reception by the Government of *he report on Mr Bryce'n petition are thus characterised by the Press tonight:—" True t> the ignoble instincts which prompted him to drive hie erstwhile bosom friend troin the House by the aid ot his subservient majority last session the Premier yesterday afternoon, by the aid of the same majority defeated the motion that the evidence taken before the petitions committee on the petition of the Hon. J. Bryce be attached to the report. When the committee presented their report, there was no evidence attached to it, as there most certainly should have been, considering the large amount of public attention which the Bryce incident has attracted. Mr G. Hutchison moved that the report be referred back to the committee, with an instruction that the evidence should be attached to it, and thus placed on record. We presume that the Premier was ashamed of himself for his conduct last session, and that that was the reason why he whipped up his majority to prevent the damaging evidence from appearing on the public records of the colony. The Hon. Mr Ballance may hug himself in the fond delusion that this painful episode in his career has now been finally disposed of; but if he does so he will be woefully deceived. It will riee up in judgment against him at the next general election, and will haunt him like an avenging spirit till he finally shuffles off the coils of political life."
