Sixty tin-plate works have stopped in Wales owing to tho McKinley tariff in tho United States, and 10,000 men have been thrown out of work.
The tin works at Swansea have been obliged to close, owing to tho depression of their trade. Thousands of men have in consequence been thrown out of employment. . Bolckow, Vaughan and Co., iron masters, Middlesbro, owiug to tho strikes, are unable to pay a dividend.
A receiving order has been made against Eedfern, Alexander and Co., Colonial merchants, Great Winchesterstreet.
Much sympathy is expressed in the city for Redt'ern, Alexander and Co. The liability of the firm is not so large as at first slated, and does not exceed £300,000. The precise reason of the failure is not known, but it is attributed to family matters.

The Daily Telegraph says that Kedfern, Alexander and Co.'s estate is expected to yield bad results in liquidation. Mr Vandcrbilt's death complicated matters, as it caused the withdrawal of the capital invested by him in the business. The receiving order was made on the debtor's own petition. The dtoek Exchange has regarded the firm as weak for some time.
