ALEXANDRA.
The Floods,—The late wet weather that we have experienced here has caused the greatest fresh in tho Waipa River, siuce the great flood in 1875. The old bridge here, which was condemned as unfit for traffic a short time ago, has stood the strain on it nobly, yesterday the water was running over the decking, only the handrails to be seen out of water, with a large log alongside. It is to be hoped some one will endeavour to move it as it greatly endangers the bridge, and should it carry away would in all probability cause the destruction of the bridges lower down at Te Rori and Whatawhata.
Sickness.—There is I am sorry to say a groat deal of sickness in the district, and unfortunately no medical assistance nearer than Hamilton. There would be a good opening for one of the profession to reside say at Te Awamiitti* It is strange none of the unsuccessful applicants for the Hospital has not started there with the exception of Dr. Broome who was there for a few days only.
I'OOTIiALL.—Our local footballers are of course somewhat jubilant at having defeated the hitherto invincible Hamiltonians, the game was a moat exciting one, and well worth going to see. It was regre table, however, that some of the team," however, could not take a defeat good temperedly, one of them so far forgetting himself as to strike the captain of the Paterangi's, for no cause whatever, to an onlooker s point of view, and showed very bad form indeed. Of course this solitary instance should not reflect on the team as a> whole, as I am convinced the majority uf the Hamilton men would have condemned it most heartily had it beeu called to their notice.
I 1 host, —There was a heavy frost here last night and a mizzling cold raiu this morniop.
