SPORTING.

Waikato Hunt Club Races. Tun annual meeting of tho Waikato Hunt Club was hold on Mr .Tared Allwill's course, at Hautapu, on Saturday last, and was highly successful. Tho attendance was good, many being attracted out by the tine day and all seemed to enjoy tho sport. There were no accidents to mar the day's pleasure beyond a couple of spills in the jumping races, in which neither horses nor jockeys were hurt. Six events were set down for discussion, and the racing throughout was very good, the finishes in all but one instance being close and exciting, there being only threo winners for the six races. Mr J. Tumbull's gelding Costley performed the phenomenal feat of winning the hurdles and tho two steeplechases, being steered in all by his owner. The wins were very popular with the public, and both horso and rider were loudly cheered on landing the treble. Tho Maiden and the Bracelet were won by Lonely, although in each case a protest has been lodged, on account of the winner having run at unregistered meetings. The stewards decided to refer this matter to tho Metropolitan Club. The various officers of the Club worked energetically, and the Hon. Sec., Mr A. -T. Storej, left nothing undone that would make the meeting a success. The various positions were tilled as under : Judge, Mr L. Cussens; starter, Mr C. .1. Storey ; clerk of scales, IS[r A. liach ; clerk of course, Mr T. Brown.
