THE LABOUR CRISIS.

Thbre is a prevailing fouling of satisfaction licre that Australia is suffering from the consequences of a dock strike, as it is recognised that colonial hi-lp has stimulated many of the recent labour troubles in Great Britain. The Times, in commenting on "Australian strikes," refers to the struggle being carried on against the Vandeibilt railways in the United States, and attributes the present industrial upheavals to the extensive use of machinery and its subdivision of labour. The Times adds that the coming question will not bo one of wage but individual liberty. The Standard declares that the labour organisations have provoked capital to combine for self-defence. Later. The report that the shipping interests aro combining to protect themselves against the labour movement is confirmed. At a meeting to-day sixty owners were present, representing every seaport in the island. The I aiiou embraces the whole tonnage of the United Kingdom, and aims at the abolition .if the men's Union. Mr T. L. Devitt, of Messrs Devitt and Moore, was elected president. The proposals include the withdrawal of ships and the payment of owners' losses
