Champion, the labour agitator, who was about to visit Australia on a lecturing tour in connection with Trade Union matters, has postponed his departure, on account of his having received a commission from the Emperor William of Germany to report on Trade Unions in Europe. With a view to overcome the obstruction to the Tithes, li-ish, Land Purchase, and Local Government Bills, the Government proposes that the House shall take them up next session at the stage they have reached by the end of the present session. Mr Cecil Raikes, PostmasterGeneral, has suspended and imposed a fine on one hundred postmen who attended a Union meeting. This decision has caused great conimotisn at the central post office. In the House of Commons to-day Mr Dillon's motion censuring the Government for their conduct in connection with the recent meetings at Tipperary and Cashel, was rejected by a large majority. The London Board of Directors of the Bank of New Zealand are awaiting the arrival of Mr David Hean (\vho is on his way Home from Auckland) before they will decide whether they will undertake the management of the Bank's affairs. As soon as he arrives a general meeting of shareholders will be convened. Bank of New Zealand shares, old issue, are quoted at £3 10s to £i 10s, and new issue at £6 10s. The directors of the National Mortgage and Ageney Company of New Zealand have declared a dividend at the rate of 5 per cenl. for the year. The Globe says that the hulls of the Australian cruisers require strengthening in order to withstand the shock of the continuous quickfiring arms with which they are armed. June 12. The Queen is deeply grieved at the death of the Dowager Marchioness of .Ely. I'akis, June 11. M. Ribul, speaking in the French Chamber of Deputies, said that now that order was established in Egypt, it was tiuie that England should fulfil her promise and withdraw her troops from that country. M. Ribot states that the French Government would be willing to consent to the conversion of the Egyptian loan, provided that the Powers arß decided on the best nieans of applying the saving effected.
