Annual Meeting of Ratepayers.

The adjourned annual meting of tlie ratepayers of the i'ukekura Road District, was held immediately after the ordinary meeting.—Air E. Lake (chairman) in opening the meeting, said ho did not see what advantage it was in calling the ratepayers to be present, as there was practically nothing before them to do, but as the Road Boards Act of 1882 (clauses read) said that it had to be dona, they had no option but to abide by the same, and the only business was to submit the balance-sheet of receipts and expenditure for the year 1889-90, as follows:—Receipts : Balance, 188!), £400 17« (id ; arrears uf rates, £5 3a ; interest on deposits. £10. Total, £41(5 0s (id. Expenditure : Administration, £18 7s; Miscellaneous, £4 13s Id ; roads and bridges (construction and maintenance), £114 5s Sd; balance on 3lst March, 181)0, £248 14s 9d. Total, £410 0.-s (id.—lt was proposed by Mr John lusher, and seconded by Mr Joseph (Jane, that the balance-sheet as read be adopted, and that the thanks of the ratepayers be given to the members of the Road Board for the way in which they had husbanded the Board's resources, which had enabled successive Boards to carry on all necessary works without levying any rate since the 2!) th December, 188(5; also, for the eare exercised by the Board in keeping and maintaining the roads in such good order, and hoping that no rate would be required this year yet.—On behalf of the Board the chairman thanked the ratepayers for their vote of thanks, and said that they would endeavour to merit the same this year.
