Cambridge Road Board.

The annual meeting of the above board was held at Hewitt's Hotel, Cambridge, on Saturday, at 2.30 p.m. The returning officer declared Messrs James Taylor and E. Pickering re-eleuttsd members of the Boar i. There had beeu one other nomination received, but it whs informal. Present: Messrs Taylor, Paton, Pickerins , , and Forrest. It was proposed by Mr Forrest, and seconded by Mr Pickering, that Mr James Taylor be elected chairman, but that gentleman—much to the regret of the members—declined the office, stating that he found his time would be fully occupied during the year, and that he would frequently be called away from Waikato, therefore he did not think he should be justified in accepting the position of chairman, although at tho same time he should be pleased to take part in their deliberations as often as possible. He moved that Mr H. J. K'lllendur be appointed chairman.— Seconded by Mr Paton and carried unanimeusly.— Capt iin McPherson was appointed clerk, treasurer, etc.

Mr Taylor occupied the chair pro tem. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

I)ou<;hkkty's Deviation.—The Clerk said the Waikato Council approved of the action of the Board in this matter, and the chairman of that body had signed the necessary certificates relating to it.—The Chairman then signed the forms required under the Public Works Amendment Act, 18S9, and the matter was comploled.

Disputed Accounts.—Rβ the account for advertising, claimed by both Sir W. Wasteneys and Mr G. L. Milward, the former wrote stating that when the latter took over tho paper he had borrowed £21) ss, not a furthiiiK of which had been repaid ; he (Sir W. Wasteneys) therefore asked that the Board would remit the amount of enclosed account—£lo 4s—to him, as he alone was authorised to receive it, and if ho had to recover it by law, it would cost tho Board a greater amount than they appeared to think. —The Chairman handed in a letter from Mr G. L. Milward authorising the Board to pay the money to Sir W. Wasteneys. It was resolved to pay the amount of the account rendered by Mr Milward, viz., £7 Us (id, to Sir W. Wasteneys, in settlement of all liabilities due for advertising in the Waikato News.

Advertising.— The Clerk said he had received complaints that the advertisements in the " Waikato News'' were seen by very few. It was unanimously resolved to in future advertise in "The Waikato Times" only.

Victoria Road.—Mr Forrest said Messrs Ferguson and Corcoran had completed their contract on this road, but a fence was needed to guide people on to the bridge, where the road had been widened near the cheese factory, or some dark night there womld be an accident. —Mr Taylor offered to find poplar trees for the purpose, and Mr Forrest was authorised to get the work done.

Gkavrl Pits.—Mr Forrest spoke of the great necessity of obtaining suitable sites for gravel pits, and said he thought tho Auckland Agricultur.il Company would prt/bably give the li iard half an acre somewhere along the Victoria road, if they were asked. The road went through their property for a considerable distance, and would be kept in a better state if the gravel was obtainable on the spot. It was dangerous to get it along the side of the road.—Mr Taylor thought they should apply for a plot of ground, near where Mr Hannon's house formerly stood. He believed it was a part of the cemetery reserve, that had been cut off by the railway. The matter was further discussed, but nothing done.

Accounts. — Messrs Ferguson and Corcoran's account of £9 us was passed and this closed the business.
