The Crown Lands Guide for the present year is just to hand, and is an exceedingly valuable publication of its kind. The Guide contains a draft of the land laws of the colony, with full details of the operations of the various systems, full particulars of land in the various land districts now open for selection and to be opened up, with beautifully executed maps; and a quantity of useful information about the condition of the pastoral and agricultural industries, minerals, frozen meat production, &c. Wo learn from the Guide that the extent of land in cultivation (including sown grasses) had increased from 997,477 acres in 1809, and 4,'100,88!) acres in 1879, to 7,070,107 acres in 1889—an incroa.se of over three million acres in ten years. Tho area in wheat early in 1889 was 302,153 acres, and the aggregate produce of the wheat crop waa estimated at 8,770,241 bushels; the aggregate produce of wheat during the year ended February, ISS9, wn.< 10,977,065 bushels. The export of flax in L3S9 was 17,084 ton«, valued at £301,182. The frozen meat export for the year 18S!> ivan valued at £783,374. A vast amount of other information is given, and vo commend the Guide [ as a vado mecum, not only for persons taking up or in search of land, but also to all who are interested in the trade and resources of the colony.
