THE STRIKES.
THE MINERS ORDERED OUT. ENGINEERS ON STRIKE. (BYELEOTRIO TELEGRAPH.—COPYRIGHT.) London, March 14. The members of the Union, are attacking non-Unionists at Liverpool, and a body of ,500 troops has been ordered there to preserve order. The colliery owners not having replied to the offer made by the men the leaders have ordered the latter to go out ou strike. The strike of 200,000 colliers is causing a great deal of excitement throughout the country, and short production from Lancashire, Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottingham, Leicestershire, and Warwick and North Wales mines. It is expected the result will be the closing of the Northern blast furnaces and many of the mills. Several of the Lancashire and Stafford colliery owners are willing to agree to the demands of the men. Twenty thousand of the Fifeshire miners are insisting on an increase of 10 per cent in wages. Twenty thousand engineers at Newcastle and Stockton on-Tees have gone out on strike demanding the cesation of work at mid-day on Saturdays. Brussels, March 15. The Antwerp cigar workers have struck for an increase of wages, and the factory proprietors having declined to accede to the request, great disorder has been occasioned, and it continues to increase.
