PAINFUL ACCIDENT AT CAMBRIDGE WEST.

A little boy named Frank, son of-Mr C. Tuck, the well-known Clerk of the. Piako County Council, met with a serious accident about half past two on Saturday afternoon. The little fellow is about eight years of age, he waß climbing a willow tree noar hia home at Cambridge West, when the bough broke precipitating him to the ground. He fell upon his left shorilder, breaking the collar bone and splintering the cup of the shoulder. His elder sister saw the accident, and ran to his assistance, and noticing what she thought was a splinter of wood sticking into the poor boy's shoulder, she endeavoured to pull it out, but as it would not come easily she let it alone. This was afterwards found to be a piece of bone that was broken off the cup of the shoulder, and had protrnded through the flesh and garments. Dr Cushney was quickly in attendante, but the arm was so swollen that he could not ascertain what injury had been done. Dr Waddington waS sent for, chloroform was administered, the shoulder cut open and the bone replaced, after which the broken collar bone was attended to. The boy is progressing favourably, and bears the pain with great fortitude, considering his tender years. The doctors fear he will never thoroughly recover the use of the injured arm, as it is doubtful if the splintered shoulder will set exactly in its proper position. Much sympathy is felt for Mr and Mrs Tuck under the trying circumstances.
