♦ - The usual monthly meeting of the Waipa County Council wis held at the Council Chambers, Ohanpq, at noon on Tuesday. Ihere were present Crs., Teitsdale, Ander*oni Ridler, Smith, and Hunter. Mr A. Armstrong, Connty Engineer was aho m atte adanca.s Jn the absence of the chairman, Cr. Teasdale was voted to the uhiur. Engineer's Report.—ln] his monthly report, tho Engineer stated that Mr Nicol ■ad signed the contract for the Ohete Creek bridge, and was making the necessary arrangements for commencing the work which should be well advanced by next meeting. With reference to the work authorised at last meeting to be done near Mr Bertram's, no tending bad been received andon consultation with Cr. Farrell it was deoided to allow the work to lie over for a fortnight, as all the availiable labour is takenl- up in harvesting. The Bwamp portion'of the Kihikihi-Cambridge Road has been on lire in several places, and a man has been put on to keep it " under, owing to this precaution, little or no damageMias been done. The report was receivedand adapted. , Hootitai, Contribution.—A demand for the balance of the contribution due by the Council, £140 4s sd, was received from the District Hospital Board. It was decided to pay the whole amount. Slaughtering! License.—A renewal of - His dlaußhtoring license was granted to Mr '■. J; Casnidy, od> condition of his * paying the usual fee.—The Clerk stated that throughout the county there had only been three slaughtering licenses renewed for the present year, and that thriae persona who had foot renewed their licenses and continued . slaughtering were liable to be prosecuted. . —The Clerk was instructed to request the police to take immediate .steps Against persons slaughtering without a license. Rates.—As the Council are using Lot 120, Pukektira, the property of the JPukekura Road Board, as a gravel pit, it was decided that in future this property be exempted from rates. • • , Alexandra.' Pound.—Two petitions, one from 207 Maoris, and another from Alexandra ratepayers, weri received, prayiag. that the Alexandra pound be abolished at the expiration of the present contract, February 15th.—The Chairman said he thought , that it was not so much' the pound that the people wished abolished, but 1 that there should be no ranger appointed.—Cr. Smith said be thought the peaple wishtd the pound abolished as well.—lt was resolved ' to abolish the pound at the expiration of . the present contract, and the Clerk was in- ' structed to give the ranger notice that his term ceases on the loth inst. j GRiEyANCE.—Mr D. Coe complained that nnder his present agreement with the « Council his lease of the reserve at Alexandra ] is useless to him, as the public appear to ] have as much right to the reserve as he has. j He asked that the lease be drawn up under i fresh conditions.
