THE CAMBRIDGE PUBLIC HALL
■ ■■■.. , '.- '10 THK KDtroß. Sik.—l am pleased to see by your report of the Cambridge Borough Council's meeting on Tuesday, that it was decided nott to let the Public Hall to Mr G. L. Mitward until he had stated what .he required it for, and also that the councillors bore in mind that the individuals who managed the rink last season,, would probably wish to undertake it again this year, lam told that some ,of the. cbunoillbfs'ySaid it looked as'if Mr Milward was trying to euchre the rinking club, and from what I can learn, they are co'rrecfjn their/ last yeai was vvell, /'rt»anage(d,,and if the proprietorsniade a little money by it, they thoroughly earned it, and I think it would be a great pity to let a comparative stranger step in and monopolize the Hall on Wednesday and Saturdav evenings. Then what guarantee have we,-that Mr Milward jwiHetay in, for sisdmonths? It is true be ihas taken ijthe; Cambridge paper fof three mrShths, ?the^numerous vicissitudes through which the journal has passed, I should not be astonished to hear of'him relirlquisbing:it assoon as the three montlis have expired. .Itvis a great pity that in a small country township like Cambridge, there should be so many class but' the fact nevertheless remains ; and I contend that anything that tends to cement a good feeling and intercourse between the various classes, does a great good and helps to bring about a better feeling. At the rink last aeas'pn, the " iatn tarts " and the " mud pie.s " fraternised freely, and I believe that both parties had a better opinion' Of each other at the end of the season than they had at the beginning. Will Mr Milward be able to bring about a similar result? If so, by all means let him have a try ; but the Council wpuld'do well to. have a'gnarsintee, (as;l believe they had last year), ao that the rinkers may not find the season curtailed.—l am, etc.. •' ■• ' ''■■ • ARINKER.
