WAIRANGI.

6 Road Wokks.— The chairman and clerk of ■ the ■ Waikato County: Council arrived in Mataiiu'ra im the 10th'ihst., and , were met by the Messrs Storie, Proctor, Hill, and Councillor .'Johnson. ,T-ha object of the visit was for the purpose , of inspection tho road lately laid off by the engineer. ;After a little conversation they t proceeded to where the deviation had been made, and after inspection the Chairman said that he could not see why the engineer had laid off the road in the manner he had done, going down a nasty hill and crossin? two swamps, whereas if he had kept as near as f possible to the old track, (whichis it present used by dray traffic), the distance would have been very little longer, and it would have saved going'up" the hill and the formation of the road over the swamp, more especially as the track at present in use was the road that the settlers had petitioned for, and he added that at the next meeting of the Council he would see that the engineer should have instructions to lay off the road as desired by the petitioners, and that Or. Johnson would be asked to meet the engineer and point ■ out to him exactly where they had decided the .road to, go through. It is a great pity that) that road had not berm laid off at the'commencement, in the direction that settlers wanted it, as it has been a source of great annoyance and expense, both to the riding and to some of the stfctlers,—Messrs Hubberd and Milne have completed their contract for laying down the culverts, and their work has been passed satisfactorily by Mr Grange. Stallion Gorbc by a Bull.—l am sorry to say that the thoroughbred stallion belonging to Mr G. Hill, of Matahura, was gored by a. native bull a few days ago, inflicting a very severe wound on the lowerj part of the neck. There are grave doubts as to his recovery. Inconvenience to Tkavkllers.—Now: that the fence at the upper end of' Dr. Tremarne's property, lying between the Matahura and Wairanga valleys is completed, the public traffic is completely, stopped.and unless something is. at once done to makethe few crossings over the swamp, by the proposed road, the inconvenience to the travelling public will be very great, as they will be forced to travel round by Huntly and Ranginri, some 50 miles instead of going three or four,—(Own Correspondent, vVairangi, February 11th).':
