VISIT OF THE HON. JOHN BRYCE, MEMBER FOR WAIPA.

The Hon. John Bryce, lately returned unopposed for the_ Waipa constituency, duly arrived by train on Tuesday. A number of settlers from various parts of the district waited upon Mr Bryce at Mrs Gwynne's .Hotel. Several of the gentlemen present expressed their pleasure at seeing Mr Bryce in the district, and said they felt certain that the feeling would be general. Mr Bryce said he felt pleased and gratified, indeed the exceedingly handsome manner in which the district had lately treated him, had gratified him beyond measure. He had felt an uncomfortable sensation, that when the district he had represented for a good part of a life time, rejected him, its verdict, that he was not worthy to sit in Parliament might be right. The electors of Waipa had relieved hiin from that feeling and he appreciated their action accordingly. He wished thus early to clear the ground as to a question often asked him with respect to the approaching general election, in regard to that he might say that he pretended to have no claim upon the settlers of the Waipa district; quite the contrary. If the electors thought it better to elect a local man, he was not at all prepared to say they were not right. But the settlers had established a strong claim upon him, and if he stood at all at the next election, and the district wished him to continue as its member, he would be entirely at its disposal. For the rest he had come to visit his friends and the district. If it was wished that he should deliver an address, he was entirely at their disposal. The following gentlemen were present at the interview:—Msssrs J. Walton, J. Fisher, Captain Steele, E. Lake, R. W. Roche, B. C. Shepherd, and after some little consultation Mr Lake suggested, and it was agreed to, that a committee of the following gentlemen be appointed to arrange for Mr Bryce's addresses at the various centres, namely :—Captain Steele, Messrs G. Edgecumbe, T. G. Sandes, S. Westney, R. W. Roche, W. Taylor. J. Walton, J. Fisher, E. Lake, J. D. Hill. E. Fitzpatrick, G. F. Dickeson, .T. W. Ellis, J. Mitchell, A. R. Langley, E. C. Shepherd, F. W. Lang, J. Brooks and ,T. H. Wi ight. Mr G. Edgecumba was requested to act as secretary, and to communicate with tho members of the committee. After some further discussion ic was arranged that addresses should be delivered at the following places and dates : —Hamilton, Saturday loth inst.; Te Awamutu, Monday 17th ; Whatawhata, Thursday 20th ; Raglan, Saturday 22nd : Ngaruawahia, Monday 2-lth ; Ohaupo, Thursday 27th.
