HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual monthly meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers at 7 30 p.m. on Tuesday. There were present: Crs. Jones, Day, Tippen, Salmon, Wood, Davey, Bell, Parr, and Scott. A letter was received from the. Mayor apologising for his absence, and Cr. Jones was voted to the chair. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Clarence Street.—Mr J. T. Home wrote drawing attention to the necessity of having a tew loads of gravel spread on this street, which is of red clay, and which, if left as at present, will b) impassable in the winter.—Cr. Piirrsaid that there was very little cart traffic on this road, and if some gravel were put on the footpath he thought that would meet the case.—Tho matter was left in the hands of the Works Committee to report at next meeting. Mas Moore's Complaint.—ln reference to the complaint lodged by Mrs Moore the pouudkfioper replied that there had been no overcharge in connection with theimpoundof her soil's pony. The pony was impounded at 1 o'clock p.m., on January !}, and released at 3 p.m. the same day, the charges bein;?, milenge, Is ; trespass, claimed by Mr Edmund's, Is ; poundage, Is ; mid notice, which was posted at the Kiriitiriroa Post Office, 2s Gd.—Cr Panmoved that no further action be taken in this matter.—Seconded by Cr. Day and carried. Pump.—The poundkeeper wrote asking that the pump at the pound bo put into working order, as at present he has to carry water to any cattle impounded. The matter was referred to Works Committee with (tower to act. Wokks Report.— The foreman of works reported that dudug Janua.-y, the drain in Anglesea street had been cleaned out, the rotten culvert on the Cambridge road replaced by pipes, the wooden shoot at tho bottom of Cook-street retarred, the saleyard drains cleaned out, furze cut round the wood work of the bridge, so as to prevent danger to the bridge in of fire, and No 1 Bridge repaired. The report was received and adopted. Pound. —The poundkeeper reported that during January there had been impounded three horses, one of which was released and two sold, and seven head of cattle, all of which were released, and 7s fees had been collected. The report was received. Payments.—Ou the motion of Cr. Tippen, seconded by Cr. Dey, the following payments were authorised :—ll. Waite, 18s 6d ; G. Mayes, £1 2s 2Jd ; T. W. Maunder, £2 0s lOd ; J. Frear, £9 10s ; J. Reid, £3 Is lOd. Wokks Committee. —Cr. Dey, in the absence of the Mayor, moved tho notice of motion standing in his name, viz. That resolution No 22, of October Bth, 1889 (fixing the Works Committee at three) and resolution No 4, of December 10th, 1889 (appointing Cr. Scott Chairman of the Works Committee) be rescinded with a view to inserting the name of the Mayor on the Works Committee.—Seconded by Cr. Salmon.—The Chairman moved, as an amendment, that resolution No. 22, of October Bth be rescinded with the view of adding the names of Cr. Davey and the Mayor to the Works Committee, the committee to meet on the first Tuesday in each month to frame a report to be submitted to the Council at its ordinary meeting, three to form a quorum.—Seconded by Cr. Parr. The amendment was put and carried, the voting being, for: The Chairman, Crs. Scott, Davey, Wood and Parr, against Crs. Dey, Tippen, Bell, and Salmon. The voting for the original motion was : For Crs Dey, Tippen and Salmon, against the Chairman, and Crs. Scott, Parr, Davey, Wood, and Bell. The Overdraft.—The Chairman gave notice to move at next meeting that a poll of the burgesses be taken to determine whether £1000 of the £4000 be taken to pay off the overdrafts of the Council and Domain Board. This concluded the business.
