Auckland. Monday. At the Police Court to-day, Samuel Cox, restaurant keeper, was fined For sly-grog selling, the customer being a policeman in plain clothes, and was staying at his house. J. Oh:.h"«, the well-known trainer, leaves for Sydney to-morrow, where he purposes set!ling down. He will take over with him Tartar, On Guard, and a NordenfolHt— Pnlclira colt that he purchased at the New Zealand Stud Company's yearling sale. At the examination of Roberts, a bankrupt, given to-day, Judge Gillies said Ihe neglect to keep his books brought the bankrupt un:ier the penal clauses of the Act. There seemed to be no intention on his part to conceal anything from his creditors, and he felt sure that he would not be justified in exercising the penal powers of the summary jurisdiction. It would be a matter for consideration when the bankrupt applied for his discharge, and the court would postpone further consideration until he did apply for hi* discharge.
