OHINEMURI.

Mining News.—Several good little returns of gold are to hand. Farmer and party tributurs in the Smile of Fortune Owharoa, retorted on Saturday, 171 oz gold, from about 150 tons of ore. Gold value about o2s. Heitman and party's recent return from the Woodstock, 4820z from 101 tons is highly satisfactory, except that the price of the bullion is very low —22s per oz. Mr Parkes has now got his rollers into position, and starts breaking ore immediately. The rollers were made at Messrs Kraser and Sons Foundry, Auckland, and with all gearing weigh five "tons. Everything is now ready for smelting, and the furnace should be started about Saturday next. At Waihi, Mr Walker has all the pans and settlers in position, as well as the other portions of his immense plant. Thedraining shaft is down over 100 feet and water has commenced to flow in heavily, Mr Bain the contractor, has suspended work for a while in order to obtain help from the pumps. By the beginning of October everything will be in readiness for a start.

Licensing Coiimittke. — The usual Quarterly meeting of the Ohinemuri licensing Committee took place on Saturday last at Paeroa. Present: Messrs Moore (in the chair), Snodgrasa and Cook. The only business transacted wag the transfer of the license ot the Waihi Hotel, Waihi, from tsoorge to Percy Newell.

Nkw Council Chambers.—The new Ohinemuri county offices are now nearly complete. Mr George Gapes, of Waiorongomai, has "nearly finished the inside work and the Council will take possession immediately. Peaches appear to have to a great extent got over the blight and are showing great quantities of blossom. ; The late frosts spoiled the early potatoes; but the main crop will undoubtedly be a rich one. At time of writing a welcome rain is commencing.
