A private cablegram.received this evening, states that Mesars R6gan and Co., proprietor of the poultry farm here, have taken thirty-two prizes at the Poultry Show, held in Melbourne yesterday and to-day, in connection with the Exhibition. The tirrn had thirty-five entries, but extra birds were taken across for sale, and probably some of them were also entered. The Harbour Board have refused to grant an extension of leave to Chief Pilot Holmes, who already has been on six months' leave of absence, owing to a contraction of the sinews in his hands through the continued use of the steer oar, and the committee recommend that his services be dispensed with. Pilot Holmes has been 28 years in the pilot service, and for 21 yearß at the Heads of this port. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Charles Henry of Fielding for a breach of the Bankruptcy Act. Accused left for Sydney on Saturday last. A correspondent of tho Pest telegraphs there is now 750 men on the Mahakipawa goldfields in Marlborough. The proprietors of Cobb and Co.'s omnibusses here, who are competing against the city trams, have decided to commence operations in Dunedin in November. A portion of the plant is to be sent from here and the remainder from Auckland. A sharp shook of earthquake was felt here at about 7.15 this morning.
