'' Sydney, January 27. The strike of miners at the Lambton Colliery has ended. The men have returned to work.
The cricket match, Shaw-Lilly-white's team versus Camden, has been drawn, as the rain prevented the match being finished.
In consequence of continuous heavy rain the rivers are rising very rapidly. Communication is interrupted at the Clarence and Richmond rivers, which have been heavily flooded. Two lives have been lost by the inundation. Great damage has been done to property thioughout the district. The flood is now partially subsided. The weather is now clearing. The intercolonial cricket match has been postponed till to-morrow 011 account of the rain. Sailed : The Te Anau, for Auckland. Melbourne, January 27. Mr John Douglas, the High Commissioner of New Guinea, is now in this city conferring with Mr Gillies in regard to the affairs of that island.
