Visit of Mr La Monte. Tfi Akoha, Monday. Mr La Monte arrived here yesterday and, accompanied by Col. Fraser and Mr H. W. Shepherd, visited several of the Tui mines to-day. He expressed himself as highly pleased at what he s<*w of the reef in the claims inspected and believes that with good and careful management they will eventually yield large returns. Exception has beeu taken here to a statement that appeared in the mining column of the Herald last week, relative to the quality of the stuff from the Tui district, which is there spoken of as being rich in lead but poor in silver. The statement is incorrect, as nuuiberluss_assays have been made that have given high per, oentageH of silver. The parcels of stuff sent to the Thames from the Champion lode claims (the last lot being taken from the whole width of the lode and forwarded' almoat as it was broken out), proved that toe stone contains both silver and gold in highly payable quantities.
