FATAL ACCIDENT AT PUKETE.

An inquest was held at Pnkete yesterday, before Mr W. N. Searancke, coroner, and a jury of six on the body of H.irold Edward, infant son of Mr Johns, farmer, of Pnkete, who died the previous day, from the result of a kick from a horse received on Wednesday afternoon. From the evidence it appeared that the boy, who was only four years of age, was driving a mare before him in the paddock, and the animal, which has always been considered quiet, lashed out and kicked the little fellow in the stomach. A brother of the deceased saw the accident and carried deceased to the house. The mother put him to bed, and applied hot fomentations. On the following day preparations were made to bring the child in to Hamilton, but as he appeared to be dying he was left at home, and Mr Johns rode in for Dr. Murch. Before the doctor could leave Hamilton a message arrived to say the boy was dead. The evidence of Dr. Mtirch, who made a post mortem examination, was to the effect that the cause of death was rupture of the intestines. A kick from a horse would be sufficient to cau«e the injury. The jury returned a \erdictof "Accidental Death."
