A meeting of the Executive Committee of the New Zealand Exhibition was held this afternoon to consider the statement)* made in the Timaru Herald respecting the manner in which the returns of the exhibits were arranged. The Chairman said the article in question was actuated by a personal grievance and th.it on enquiry in the proper quarter the btatements could have easily been proved to have been incorrect. The following resolutions were carried : — (1) The statements contained in the Timaru Herald respecting the general manner in which the exhibit* have been treated are untrue in every respect. (2.) That of 2000 exhibits in the industrial branch only about a dozen have not been returned, and the otficulh h.uebeen unvble te find owners of the->e owing to the imperfect labelling of exhibits (3). Th.it Mr Triggrf, of the Timaru Herald, who complained that two small articles belonging to him had not been retni ned has now admitted by letter that his exhibits were returned to Timaru on the 18th December, along with the Tmutu Main School exhibits. The notice i^ued to the Fiiendly Societies by the Property Tax Department is for rating purposes only, and there is no intention on tho part of the department to enforce payment of the tax from these societies. Cardinal Moran will meet with a hearty welcome heie. The committee will proceed to the Heads to meet him. The opening of S. Patrick's College takes places on Sunday, and the conversazione on Tuesday night.
