He suggested that the committal of the bill be postponed. Mr \V. F. Buckland thought the bill would fail of its object, which was to pro* tect small holdeis of money. Sir Julius Vogel t>aid those who held notes should be protected, and liabilities incmred b'foie the parsing of the act .should be a fii^t chaige. The motion for going into Committee was rarned on a di\ision by 35 to 33. He spoke -stior.gly against the Bill. Mr Blown supported the Bill, and Mr Fitzheibert leplied to aiguments against the Bill. On the motion for the second reading, Mi Hobbs called for a division, with thfl result that the bill wad thiown out by 32 to 24. Mr Beetham moved the second reading of the Adulteiation Pre\ention Act Amendment Bill which was agieed to. Mi O'Connor mo\ed the committal of tlie Friendly Societies Act Amendment Bill. He said it was intioduced at tho leqtiest of a ntimhei of societies, and pro- \ lded that evei ytlnng o\ er ."i per cent of the suiphis funds of tin* lodges should be at the disposal of the 'odge, and go into the geneial management.
