TO THK EDITOR. Sir,— Will you allow me to enquire througli your journal who is fco Maine for so long neglecting to put cl.iy on the fascines which liavo been .spread on the Whafca-whata-Hamilton road '! Yesterday, from some cause or other, the fascines got" on fiie, and only for the prompt action of Mr McCutcheon, jun., who happened to bee the bla/.e some mile and a half away, unyoking one of his hm&c* and hurrying away with a bucket, more damage would have been done. Somewhat more than a chain has been burned. Fortunately it happened in the morning, and the continual traffic would have pi evented its being long unobserved. But had it oecuried at night the damage uiijfht have been incalculable. The resident*, along this road aie continually being asked why thi-> road is so much neglected by the council. A road that has to cany not only a large portion of the New-cv-.tlf District, but the ti attic of Raglan, the We--t Coast, and much of the Tuhikaramea District. I would ask again, who is to blune ? — I am, &c. f Settler. Whatawhata. Dec. 17th, 1884.
