[UEUTEII's TEC.KGKAHS.] London, July 28. In the House of Commons to day, the Hon. Evelyn Ashley, Colonial Undersecretary, in reply to a question, stated that earnest representations had been made by Engl.uul on the subject of the recidiviste question, and that it was now seriously occupying the attention of the French Government. Mr Ashley added Mint the Imperial Government would not mterfeie with any reasonable measuies that might be adopted in the colonies for then self-protection against the iuflux of criminals. He also said he hoped that it would not be nceessaiy for the colonies to legislate for the exclusion of criminals and aliens. t In the House of Louis this afternoon, Earl Gramille, Foreign Secretary, announced that an important point has arisen to-day at the Egyptian Conference, which the English delegates found it necessary to refer to Parliament. July 29. A Press Association message says the Conference willprobably adjourn until next year. The International Conference on Egyptian affairs will meet again to-day, and review its deliberations. There is a very marked difference in the views of the English and French delegates regarding the questions to be discussed, and feais are entertained that an agreement may not be ariived at.
