TOWN BOVUI) MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Town District Ho.iul wa-i held on Saturday last. Present: Crs. Fairell (chairman), Wilkinson, Tristram, Verner and Berry. The minutes of the pi evious meeting weie read and confirmed. The following is the treasurer's statement of accounts to 31st of March, and which chiefly relates to the administration of the late highway board of the tow n. Receipts.— Balance from last year, £12 lib Gd ; rates collected, £59 7s 8d ; two years Cown rates, £11 11s ; dog tax, £G 7s (id ; conditional licenses, £2 ; refund county council, £2G ; other refunds, 11s Bd. Total, £118 9, 4d. Expenditure.— Road formationand metal, £54 19s Id ; engineer, £9 9s ; railway freight, £2 4s ; law evpenses, £1 13s Gd ; printing and maps, £2 Is Id ; advertising, £1 17s (id ; dog collais, £1 7s 9d ; salaiies, including clerk, collecting, and returning officer, £19 2d Gd ; election e.\pen«es, £1 7a Gd ; stamps, and clerkS travelling expenses, £4 4s 4d : balance, £20 3s Id. Total, £118 9s 4d. The contractor, Mr Stuart, applied for a further extention of time for works in Grey and Atkinson-streets. It was resolved to allow him 10 days, and if not completed in that time, fresh tenders to be called. An application was received from Mrs Corboy for gravel to be laid in front of her store in Havelock-street. The application was gi anted. Cr. Wilkinson proposed, and Cr. Berry seconded, " That the chairman be requested to write to the county council drawing their attention to the urgent necessity that exists for putting Whitmore and Oliver-street-, in repair before the winter sets in. The county council having carted earth from Lyon-street on to Gallowaystreet without giving public notice of the same to the town board, the chairman was requested to write to the council, asking by what authority this has been done, as it seriously affects the levels of that street, and is thereby calculated to injure the properties abutting on it. The board have decided to meet on the 2nd of May (according to the provisions of the act), for the purpose of estimating the value of works to be done in thn town for the current year, preparatory to striking a rate to cover the same. The tender of Messrs Mulloy and Naylor wa3 accepted for the completion of the formation of Rolleston-street at 8s lid per chain. It was resolved that two drays be found at 7s 6d per day each to make the footpath along the north side of Whitmorestreet, as far as the Government buildings in the paddock. The following accounts were passed for payment :— Gordon, £19 2a 9d; Public Hall, £3; printing, £4 13s 9d ; Stuart, £10; Buckworth, £5 17s ; McDonnell, £30 ; Blencowe, 12s Gd ; Stuart, £i 9s Id. The business being ended, the board then rose.
PBOPOSED CONCERT. A concert to assist in liquidating the debt on the Catholic Church will be held ih the Public Hall on the 24th of May. As it is expected that some of the best singers m Waikato will assist, we may look forward to a musical treat. No pains will be spared to make it a success. — (Own Correspondent.)
No nominations having been received, the 10th May has been fixed for the receipt of nominations for four vacancies in the Mangapiko Highway A quadrille party will be held in the Oddfellows Hall, Hamilton, on Thursday evenine May Ist. 6 * Mr John Knox advertises an extensive sale of 1 bankrupt stock for May 3rd. All H. Steele notifies that all stray cattle found on the Half-way farm, Pukete, and Sunnyside farm, Hamilton, will be impounded Mr Hewitt has extended the time for receiving tenders for the erection of his bnilding in Dukestreet, Cambridge, until to-morrow. Messrs Clark and Gane will sell by anction on Friday next, at 2 p.m., opposite Rose's Hotel, Cambridge, the whole of the remainder of the well-known bankrupt stock of watche* and jewellery.
